Venezuela Earthquake Relief
Nearly two weeks after twin earthquakes struck northern Venezuela, the official death toll has soared past 3,800, with almost 17,000 injured and around 18,000 left homeless. Authorities continue to search for thousands of missing or unaccounted individuals as communications are restored.
Humanitarian agencies are scaling up relief operations, but shortages of clean water, sanitation, temporary shelter, and medical services remain major challenges. While the Jewish community has been deeply affected as homes and synagogues suffered severe damage, it continues to show resilience and solidarity.
Our Federation partners and core agencies, including the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and The Jewish Agency for Israel, are providing urgent relief. Your generous gifts to our Annual Campaign provide funding for both of these agencies ensuring they are able to respond swiftly when emergencies arise. Through local distribution centers like the Hebraica JCC in Caracas, we are proud to provide food assistance, psychosocial support, healthcare, water, sanitation, and hygiene to thousands in both Jewish and broader Venezuelan populations. Hebraica also remains a critical hub for shelter and family support, including a day camp serving 143 children. Volunteers are working tirelessly to help restore a sense of safety and hope.
The Jewish community’s strong ties and global support network have enabled a rapid response—but sustaining these efforts requires our continued help. As a city that has weathered our own natural disasters, Houstonians know what it means to feel the support of the global Jewish community.
